NMRTC Bremerton Recognizes Navy Nurse Corps birthday

prioritized high-quality patient care... The Navy Nurse Corps birthday on May 13 recognizes 112 years of delivering patient-centered care from bed side to battle field.

The Nurse Corps anniversary annually follows the National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6 to May 12, which fittingly wraps up on the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the founder of modern nursing, with both noteworthy events recognized at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Bremerton.

Then, as now, caring for the sick and injured, establishing sanitary methods, supporting operational readiness during the Crimean War (1853-56) are legacies established as nursing standards by Nightingale, and sustained commitments by the Nurse Corps against the pandemic outbreak.

Lt. Elizabeth Mueller and the other approx. 60 Nurse Corps, as well as 80 civilian nurses at NMRTC Bremerton, are proactively handling multiple assignment to screen, triage, and test for COVID-19, as well as continue daily needed support for acute-care patients ((U.S. Navy Graphic by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Ryan Riley/Released)
