All Marines and sailors have the right, under certain circumstances, to communicate grievances to their commanding officer. Through the formal process of request mast, the member may speak to the commanding officer, normally in person. The commanding officer must consider the matter and personally respond to the member requesting mast. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic by Lance Cpl. Angela Wilcox)
