Capt. Hannah Kriewaldt salutes Chaplain Lt. John Shelton as she prepares to commit the remains of her father, retired Cmdr. George Kessler to rest during a burial at sea ceremony aboard USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) Sept. 5, 2020. Kriewaldt, from St. Joseph, Missouri, is a project officer for Ford at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair in Newport News, Virginia. During the ceremony, the cremains of 35 souls were committed to the sea in the Atlantic Ocean. Ford is underway conducting an independent steaming event.
