FORT BENNING, Ga. – For Soldiers practicing squad battle tactics here Sept. 16, watching out for one another's safety and otherwise supporting their team is of high importance, and the same watchful, supportive mindset is key for all members of the community when it comes to helping prevent suicide, suicide prevention experts here said this week. Suicide Prevention Month is observed every September, and Fort Benning officials say knowing the signs that someone may be suicidal and following the three-step ACE intervention sequence: Ask, Care, Escort, can help save someone from suicide, whether Soldier, Civilian, or Family member.
