Chris McCraw relaxes at the 1106th Theater Aviation Support Maintenance Group (TASMG) maintenance hangar where he works as a helicopter inspector. McCraw was a key part of a California Army National Guard rescue mission Sept. 8, 2020, when one of Cal Guard’s own Soldiers was stranded in the mountains with McCraw’s brother and other close friends during the ongoing Creek Fire. McCraw was “information central,” as he diligently tried to find the 9-member team’s whereabouts and kept updating family members. The team was missing for two days, but McCraw helped locate them.
