Staff Sgt. Dimitria Smith, 2nd Logistics Readiness Squadron supply liaison to aerospace ground equipment, poses for a photo at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Oct. 5, 2020. In 2017, right before a deployment, Smith discovered a lump in her breast which was later confirmed to be a cluster of tumors. The tumors were tested and proved to be non-cancerous, but this is something Smith will have to be aware of and regularly check up on the rest of her life. “Catching them early can save you time, money and your life. Educate yourself on how to look for lumps and knots so that you can identify them when going to the doctor and catch them early. There’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s not a hard discussion to have, it doesn’t make you any less of a woman,” Smith said. (U.S Air Force photo by Senior Airman Tessa B. Corrick)
