200917-N-SS900-3052 PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 17, 2020) Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Ellen E. Sharkey, a native of Providence, R.I., asks Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper a question during an all-hands call in the hangar bay of Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). During the visit, Esper toured the ship’s composite warfare commander spaces, receiving in-depth briefs on carrier strike group interoperability and naval power defense. Vinson is currently underway conducting flight deck certification (FDC) and carrier air traffic control center (CATCC) certification.
