U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Charles “Brock” Miller, M.D., assigned to the 59th Medical Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, is interviewed by Matt Gutman of ABC News at the University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 11, 2020, about his experience augmenting a hospital experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. Before being called to El Paso, he and his wife, also a physician, discussed the possibility of being deployed. “If they need help, I should go help. If I get pulled, this is a great time,” Miller said, stating that his readiness to support his fellow service members overseas equates well with supporting American civilians in a time of great need. He, along with approximately 60 service members, are working jointly with the civilian hospitals to assist in the mitigation of the virus and help citizens in need. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in support of the whole-of-America COVID-19 response.
