The Westport, a red and white hopper dredge operated by Manson Construction of Seattle, Wash., dredges near the Port of Alaska on Sep. 25. The vessel, a 2,000-cubic-yard hopper dredge, maintains the seafloor to the congressionally approved depth of -35 feet for safe navigation under contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District. USACE has performed maintenance dredging at the port since the 1960s to ensure safe passage for vessels.
