This #FortRileyFriday we begin our look at historic structures adjacent to Summerall Hall, the garrison headquarters, also known as building 500.
Quarters 505 was completed in 1909, the same year as the south wing of Summerall Hall. It was built with limestone walls and foundation, wood and concrete floors and a slate roof. It was originally designated as “Hospital Corps Sergeants Quarters” reflecting building 500’s use as a medical facility at the time. According to Directorate of Public Works maintenance records, by 1930 it was being referred to as “Hospital Corps NCO Quarters.”
Quarters 505 continues to serve today, as it did when constructed, as a residence for two families.
