This Fort Riley Friday, we continue our look at a small cluster of buildings near Irwin Army Community Hospital. These facilities were constructed during the period in which Camp Whitside became the central location for medical activities on post.
The building at 633 Canyon Road, also referred to as E Street, opened in 1931. According to Directorate of Public Works maintenance records it was designated as "Warehouse Middle N. G." (National Guard.) It was constructed with a concrete foundation, cement floor, glazed tile walls and a corrugated iron roof.
The US Army Corp of Engineers in its 1963 inventory of Fort Riley buildings refers to building 633 as “Warehouse/Shop.” In another USACE study dated 2008, 633 Canyon Road is referred to as “Informations Systems Processing Center.”
Building 633 has served a variety of warehouse and support activities over the years. Today, it stands vacant.
