During a Fort Worth District site visit Aug. 28, Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Kula, commander, Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was briefed on a new pump station inside the federally authorized Dallas Floodway System. The old Pavaho Pump Station, background, only has a capacity to pump out 75,000 gallons a minute of interior drainage floodwaters trapped behind the levee. From left, front row, are Dhruv Pandya, assistant director of operations, Trinity Watershed Management, city of Dallas, Kula, Sarah Standifer, assistant director (Trinity River Corridor Project & Stormwater Management) for the city, and Mike Bormann, director, Trinity River Corridor Project, Fort Worth District. A two-year construction project to expand pumping capacity of the Pavaho Pump Station in West Dallas is substantially complete and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned in October.
