Meet Royal Netherlands Army 2nd Lt. Maarten, a forward observer working with his company's fire support team.
Deployed to Mihail Kogălniceanu, Romania, with the 11th Infantry Battalion, Maarten helps his company commander provide air assets and ground-based fire support. "Everyone really likes being here, working with international partners," Maarten said, "It's really good training for us."
The 11th Infantry Battalion lead an air assault exercise with support from German and Romanian ground forces and aircraft provided and piloted by the U.S. Army. Earlier in the week, they participated in a multinational joint forcible entry alongside paratroopers from the 6th Polish Airborne Brigade and 82nd Airborne Division as a part of DEFENDER-Europe 21, a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between the U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries.
"It's a great learning point for everyone involved," he said, "It makes us all stronger for when we need to be."
