WICHITA, Kan. - Second Lt. José Garcia, Medical Service Corps officer with the 635th Regional Support Group, Kansas Army National Guard, left, and 2nd Lt. Gabriel Schrag, Nurse Corps, Active Duty, right, became the first Wichita State University Army Reserve Officer Training Corp graduates to commission in nearly 30 years May 14. After being disbanded in 1993, the WSU ROTC program was reestablished in the fall of 2019 as the result of a collaboration between Dr. Marché Fleming-Randle, vice president of WSU, and the KSARNG. The program’s uniformed cadre and instructors are entirely staffed by the KSARNG, a unique arrangement compared to other ROTC programs, which are usually staffed by Active-Duty officers and noncommissioned officers.
