Army Reserve Capt. Jo Karge, seen here as a young girl in this undated photo, grew up in Virginia surrounded by her father's Thai family members and the extended Thai and Asian community. Karge said it was not until she was older that she realized that not everyone in her expanded family was her blood relative. Karge deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, with the 310th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) to serve in the 1st Theater Sustainment Command's operational command post.
