U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Aliyanna Perez, the battle center staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge, III Marine Expeditionary Force, poses for a photo on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, May 20, 2021.
“At the battle center, I started out as a watch chief,” said Perez. “The watch chief tracks all the incidents and current operations, and maintains cognizance of pretty much anything and everything within the MEF and its subordinate commands.”
Perez explained that the battle center is an information hub used for critical meetings and tracking crucial data throughout the Indo-Pacific region that contains dozens of computers and displays to help inform staff members and the commanding general of operations, troop positions, weather and other mission-critical information.
“I am now the staff NCO of the battle center,” said Perez. “Since coming to the MEF, there’s been significant changes in the Indo-Pacific region, like in the way exercises are carried out, how we’re communicating with adjacent commands, and how we come together with other nations to enhance interoperability within this AOR (area of responsibility).”
