U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC) Photo of the Week. Each week we will post a picture from the U.S. Navy's only Boot Camp which highlights how we turn civilians into Sailors.
Recruits perform a warm-up exercise before their final physical fitness assessment (PFA) inside Freedom Hall at Recruit Training Command (RTC). All recruits are required to participate in a PFA that mirrors the recently updated fleet physical readiness program that includes a forearm plank, push ups, and a 1.5-mile run.
During their time at RTC, recruits will typically complete at least three PFAs. The first is an initial assessment completed shortly after arriving at RTC that establishes a baseline level of fitness for each recruit. The second PFA is a recruit division commander assessment around the halfway point of boot camp training. The third PFA is an official PFA conducted prior to graduation and recruits are required to pass that PFA in order to graduate from boot camp and become a Sailor in the world’s most powerful Navy. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Spencer Fling)
