Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, of Springfield, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard thanks members of the Illinois National Guard working at the mass COVID-19 vaccination site at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park, Illinois. Neely and Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Illinois, Senior Enlisted Leader, Illinois National Guard, visited the Tinley Park site as part of a “graduation ceremony” at the site May 27 hosted by the Cook County Department of Public Health. The ceremony was held as a thank you to the workers at the site, which administered its last vaccine before closing May 27. The Soldiers working the site will be moved to other vaccine sites in the Chicagoland area.
While at the sites, Neely and Ballowe offered their thanks to members working the sites and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Soldiers the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided 1.75 million vaccinations to residents, including approximately 135,000 at Tinley Park.
