New Jersey Army National Guard Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Leonard, left, leads a class about the military tactics of the Civil War for members of the armed forces of the Republic of Albania at the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt on July 7. A delegation of more than a dozen Albanian troops are training with the New Jersey National Guard in July as part of a longstanding partnership. The troops currently visiting New Jersey this month will take part in events ranging from classes on the maintenance of military vehicles to classes on how to establish courses to train soldiers on skills ranging from small arms to combat lifesaving. The Albanians will also travel to the Gettysburg battlefield and the United States Military Academy at West Point as part of their visit. The New Jersey National Guard’s partnership with Albania is part of a U.S. Department of Defense program that links states with partner countries to enhance security cooperation. Members of the Albanian defense forces have partnered with the New Jersey National Guard on combat deployments. (Army National Guard photo by Sgt. 1st Class Wayne Woolley)
