CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti(July 09, 2021)-- U.S. Navy Command Master Chief Dexter Baird, from San Pedro, Calif., attached to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 11 (MSRON-11), Combined Task Group 68.6, based at Camp Lemonnier, carries the ceremonial helmet during a traditional Expeditionary Warfare (EXW) pinning ceremony. During the ceremony the helmet, signifying all the warriors before, is passed along and filled with the following elements, sand; representing all the beaches we have crossed, dirt; the memory of the Navy’s proud history, salt water; the reminder of the Naval genesis of the sea, and river water; reminding us that the Navy owns the inland waters, together representing the proud accomplishments of U.S. Naval history.
Task Group 68.6, provides port and harbor security, high-value asset protection, and maritime security operations in coastal waterways of the Gulf of Tadjoura. The Task Group includes MSRON-11, the security boat squadron and EOD Platoon 8-2-1, which sweeps the port for explosives as needed. Both units are supported by Navy Expeditionary Combat Command in Norfolk, Virginia and are currently deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Camp Lemonnier is an operational installation that enables U.S., allied and partner nation forces to be where and when they are needed to ensure security in Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia.
