This Fort Riley Friday we're back on Barry Avenue. The street was named for Chaplain Thomas W. Barry who served as Post Chaplain in the 1890's and was instrumental in construction of Main Post Chapel. Located at 6 Barry Avenue, Main Post Chapel opened in 1897. It was built with limestone walls and foundations, wood floors and a slate roof. Main Post Chapel features 18 stained glass windows and numerous plaques remembering the service and sacrifice of soldiers who have served Fort Riley from the Spanish-American War to the present. As it has since the day it opened its doors, Main Post Chapel has served the religious needs of the soldiers assigned to Fort Riley.
