Staff Sgt. Michael P. DeGrove, an instructor with Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry – East, uses a plotting board to record adjustments sent from a forward observer during an instructor-only class on firing from the defilade aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Sept. 24. Marines were unable to see their target and relied on forward observers to relay information on direction and distance while firing with a direct-fire M240B machine gun.
