CORAL SEA (July 27, 2021) Royal Australian Navy officer Lieutenant Commander Rob Wright, from Boonah, Queensland, Australia, is assigned to the Sasebo, Japan-based staff of Amphibious Squadron 11, the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed amphibious squadron, as the amphibious plans officer. He is assigned to Amphibious Squadron 11 through the U.S. Department of Defense Personnel Exchange Program, which conducts more than 200 international military exchanges with 20 countries including Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom. The ships of Amphibious Squadron 11 are participating in Talisman Sabre (TS) 21, a large-scale, bilateral military exercise between Australia and the U.S. involving more than 17,000 participants from seven nations. It is a demonstration of our strong alliance underpinned by deep levels of cooperation and trust built over decades operating and training together. TS21 is the ninth iteration of the biennial exercise conducted since 2005 across Northern Australia. Australian, U.S. and other multinational partner forces use Talisman Sabre to enhance interoperability by training in complex, multi-domain operations scenarios that address the full range of Indo-Pacific security concerns.
