U.S. Air Force Maj. Chris Elerwire, a KC-135 Stratotanker pilot with the 909th Air Refueling Squadron from Kadena Air Base, Japan, prepares the aircraft for landing during RED FLAG-Alaska 21-3 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Aug. 18, 2021. This exercise provides unique opportunities to integrate various forces into joint and multilateral training from simulated forward operating bases. RF-A 21-3 is a Pacific Air Forces-sponsored exercise designed to provide realistic training in a simulated combat environment. A series of commander-directed field training exercises provide joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support, and large force employment training.
