Staff Sgt. Brandon Banzhaf, a mass communications sergeant with the 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element, 1st Armored Division, shows an Afghan child how to use his camera during a community engagement event in support of Operation Allies Welcome at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 11, 2021. Engagement teams develop relationships with the Afghan community and help with navigating the inprocessing procedures and other issues and concerns they may have. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Christina Westover, 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element)
