Christine Cuicchi, Director of the Navy DSRC, explains that the center’s current total supercomputing capability (20.1 petaFLOPS) is nearly ten million times that of its original capability in 1990 (2.3 gigaFLOPS). The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command directs and oversees more than 2,500 globally-distributed military and civilian personnel who collect, process and exploit environmental information to assist Fleet and Joint Commanders in all warfare areas to make better decisions faster than the adversary.
