210727-N-AC165-0030 (July 27, 2021) – Able-bodied Seaman Nadia Macasaet works in the deck department aboard USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193). Macasaet explains the significance of fall protection and ship preservation. “The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that US Naval Service ships have safety measures in place for personnel working at a specified height in order to prevent any unnecessary ship hazards. Ship preservation is also important onboard our ship because it extends the life expectancy of the equipment used as well as maintains the structural and physical integrity of the ship itself. Rust is no one’s friend.”
Macasaet is the first in her family to sail in the maritime industry. “I’ve always been comfortable on the water and found the idea of traveling around the world for work to be a huge plus.”
MSC provides on-time logistics, strategic sealift, as well as specialized missions anywhere in the world, in contested or uncontested environments. Diehl is one of 15 fleet replenishment oilers that make up MSC’s Combat Logistics Force.
