GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Nov. 3, 2021) Twelve eighth grade students from LEARN 10 Charter School in North Chicago, Ill. visited Operations Specialist “A” School at Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Great Lakes on Nov. 3 as part of the Partnership in Education between North Chicago schools and Naval Station Great Lakes commands.
The visit was arranged by Operations Specialist 1st Class Nelson Stroman, the Community Outreach lead for SCSTC Great Lakes, and David Lehfeld, the installation School Liaison Officer. They each met with Amy Hopkins, the principal at LEARN 10, and are working to reinstitute the connection between the command and the school after the long period of dormancy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This visit was the first step in bringing Great Lakes Sailors back into area schools.
The visit lasted for a little over an hour. The students got hands-on experience with state-of-the-art simulators and enjoyed conversing with instructors about their jobs and life in the fleet.
