As USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) enters the Port of Hueneme, NSWC PHD Deputy Technical Director Vance Brahosky, bottom, takes in the view from the fourth floor rooftop of the Surface Warfare Engineering Facility on Oct. 19. Having a deep connection with the vessel and its namesake, Rear Adm. Wayne Meyer, Brahosky arrived early to take advantage of the clear visibility and high vantage point to watch USS Wayne E. Meyer while she was still a few miles offshore.
Brahosky arrived extremely early to see the ship arrive. “I helped get that ship built when I was the director for Aegis Ship Integration and Test, and I was present for her commissioning,” he said. “I reflected on the blessings I received in having known and worked for Rear Adm. Wayne Meyer years ago, and I thought about the admiral’s enormous contributions to our Navy in defense of our nation in the form of developing and fielding the Aegis combat system. I also thought about how great our Navy is in honoring Rear Adm. Meyer’s contributions as the “Father of Aegis” and that it would name a ship—this ship that approached our port in the early morning hours of Oct. 19, 2021—after him, and so, it was a very special moment for me.” (U.S. Navy Photo by Eric Parsons/Released)
