Soldiers assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) “Rakkasans”, and soldiers from the Brazilian army assigned to 5th Battalion, 12th Infantry Brigade execute an air assault and infiltration Dec. 7 at Lorena Brazil during Southern Vanguard 22, a training exercise designed to build upon the lethality of both forces and increase teamwork as part of a joint operation.
“We’re really excited to be training with the Brazilian army, it’s important to continue to train in air assault operations because air assault proficiency is critical to increasing our lethality” said 2nd Lt. Clark Tecson, an S2 officer with the Rakkasans. “We we’re initially concerned about the language barrier but the translators have been extremely helpful, and we also learn that communication is often nonverbal, at the end of the day both armies are speaking the language of freedom.”
