They took the burnt of the 2nd wave dive bombing attack intended to hit USS PENNSYLVANIA. The battleship behind them is USS PENNSYLVANIA (BB-38). The crane on the right is crane 51, (George Walters' crane). The ship that appears in the distance (between USS PENNSYLVANIA and the crane) is the light cruiser, USS HELENA.
