Anne Marie Mattison, mother of fallen Florida Army National Guard Soldier Sgt. Jeffrey M. Wershow, joins Florida National Guard leaders and Soldiers during a flag ceremony and memorial presentation Dec. 12, 2021. Relatives of Sgt. Jeffrey M. Wershow presented the unit with a state flag he had flown during his overseas service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit also commemorated the Soldier by naming a Professional Development Center after him and the ideology he carried of being an eternal student. Although Wershow gave his life in service July 6, 2003, the bond held by his family and the unit remain a testament to the dedication FL Guardsmen have to both their country and those they serve with.
