The 10th Support Group coordinated with the 97th Transportation Company to transport interceptors belonging to the 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade from Hiro Ammunition Depot to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, where the Marines offloaded and stored the interceptors as part of a joint proof of concept during Yama Sakura 81, Dec 8.
“This is the first time I’m aware of live interceptors getting shipped across sea,” said Sgt. 1st Class Mervin Moore, an Army Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator-Maintainer with 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment out of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. “I’m here to receive and sign for the interceptors, ensure they’re transported, and accounted for."
