U.S. Army Gen. Richard D. Clarke, commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, treats a simulated vehicle-borne improvised explosive device victim with a virtual reality device used to train Special Tactics Airmen assigned to the 22nd Special Tactics Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. Dec. 15, 2021. The virtual reality technology helps Special Tactics Airmen and combat mission support personnel create complex deployment-like scenarios and train on a wide range of battlefield trauma care techniques. During the visit, 22nd STS leadership also gave USSOCOM leaders a tour of the squadron facilities and provided an orientation of the squadron’s Preservation of the Force and Family program. The tour allowed USSOCOM leadership to learn about how the 22nd STS uses new technological resources and embedded support personnel to help their Special Tactics Airmen maintain maximum physical and mental readiness to carry out their demanding special operations missions of Global Access, Precision Strike and Personnel Recovery.
