Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, Chief of Engineers and USACE Commanding General, participated in a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 30 to commence construction of a massive seepage wall at Moose Creek Dam. Valued at $148 million, this “mega project” represents the Alaska District’s largest civil works endeavor in more than 30 years. Located at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in North Pole, the team will begin reinforcing a portion of dam during the spring of 2022. This important work will address risks associated with aging infrastructure, while extending the life of the dam. (U.S. Army Photo by John Budnik)
