Samuel Mawanda, from 626th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) records data at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s COVID-19 sample processing section within the hospital’s Department of Pathology, Jan. 24. Patient swabs collected at the hospital’s drive-thru COVID-19 testing site are sent to the lab to be individually logged, labeled, placed in a batch and ran through a polymerase chain reaction analyzer that detects if COVID-19 is present in a sample. Afterward medical laboratory specialists like Speights and Mawanda, enter the results into each individual patient’s electronic health record.
