A Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 466 (on deployment to Okinawa as part of the unit deployment program) carries an air defense missile silo during an external lift at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 27, 2022. 3rd Landing Support Battalion held this exercise as a proof of concept for external lifts, to build on the Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations concept and to improve interoperability with the U.S. Army’s 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment.
