David Burton, both Low Altitude Air Defense gunners with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), provide surface-to-air defense using the FIM-92 Stinger on Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 1, 2022. U.S. Marines from the 3d Marine Division conducted force-on-force training with the 31st MEU, providing an opportunity to test both seizing and defending key maritime terrain against a peer-level opponent. The training demonstrates the joint force’s ability to integrate command and control, expand battlefield awareness, and conduct long-range precision strikes as an enduring, stand-in-force.
