Since opening in May 2021 the new Kornish Park in Tel Uskof has welcomed its first 70 female visitors. The park was designed by Iraqi architect, Nancy Emer, who collaborated with women and girls leadership groups to create a unique park design that would be welcoming to girls and women from the community. “I was surprised to learn that women and girls in Tel Uskof didn’t have any gardens or parks to go to and enjoy themselves," said Nancy, "The girls I met in Tel Uskof reminded me of myself when I was their age, and I was so moved and inspired by them. When the time came to design the park, I wanted to make sure that they will have a beautiful space in their community. I hope the park will help them feel safe, happy and free." This USAID-funded park has improved access for women and girls who were largely isolated at home due to security concerns.
