220304-N-YS525-004 U.S. NAVY ICE CAMP QUEENFISH (March 4, 2022) - Rear Adm. Richard Seif, left, commander of the Navy Undersea Warfighting Development Center of Groton, Connecticut, and ranking officer at the Navy's Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2022, is greeted at Ice Camp Queenfish by Howard Reese, right, director of the San Diego-based Arctic Submarine Laboratory, the organization charged with planning, coordinating and executing the exercise. Traveling with Seif is his aide, Lt. Steven Puchkoff, center. Ice Camp Queenfish is built on an ice sheet floating in the Arctic Ocean 160 nautical miles offshore, and includes tents for sleeping, dining and managing exercise operations. ICEX 2022 is a three-week exercise that allows the Navy to assess its operational readiness in the Arctic, increase experience in the region, advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and continue to develop relationships with other services, allies and partner organizations.
