220305-N-YS525-006 BEAUFORT SEA (March 5, 2022) - Sailors assigned to the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Pasadena (SSN 752) moor the sub to a sheet of Arctic Ocean ice approximately 170 nautical miles off the coast of Alaska while the Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Illinois (SSN 786) sails past on the horizon. Both submarines are participating in the Navy's Ice Exercise 2022. ICEX 2022 is a three-week exercise that allows the Navy to assess its operational readiness in the Arctic, increase experience in the region, advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and continue to develop relationships with other services, allies and partner organizations.
