220304-N-YS525-008 U.S. NAVY ICE CAMP QUEENFISH (March 4, 2022) - From left to right, Cpl. Drake Graybeal, Capt. David Swensen and Brent Gillespie await the arrival of the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Pasadena (SSN 752) on a sheet of ice floating in the Arctic Ocean during the Navy's Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2022. Graybeal and Swensen are supporting the exercise from the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif., while Gillespie is on site from the Navy's Arctic Submarine Laboratory, the organization charged with planning, coordinating and executing the event. USS Pasadena is one of two fast attack submarines participating in the event and later moored to the Arctic ice. ICEX 2022 is a three-week exercise that allows the Navy to assess its operational readiness in the Arctic, increase experience in the region, advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and continue to develop relationships with other services, allies and partner organizations.
