WASHINGTON NAVY YARD (May 9, 2022) Patrick C. Burns, Deputy Director of Naval History and Heritage Command, signs a proclamation at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy, which proclaims May 10, 2022, to be U.S. Navy Original Six Frigates Day. NHHC commemorated the 225th anniversary of the launch of the first of the six frigates (United States), authorized by the 1794 legislation entitled “Act to Provide a Naval Armament.” The authorization promised the president the new Navy’s first ships of war: United States (launched 1797), Constellation (1797), Constitution (1797), Congress (1799), Chesapeake (1799), and President (1800).
