Frank E. Petersen III speaks to crew members of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121) and their families at a crew’s picnic in Charleston, S.C. May 12, 2022. The USS Petersen’s commissioning ceremony will be held May14, 2022. The ship is named in honor of the Marine Corps lieutenant general who was the first African-American Marine Corps aviator and Marine Corps general officer.
