Cadet Caroline Maurer is a rising senior at the United States Military Academy at West Point, currently taking part in the Cadet Troop Leader Training Program with 87th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, on Fort Stewart, Georgia. CTLT provides cadets the opportunity to experience leadership in Army units over a three to four-week period. Cadets serve in lieutenant-level leadership positions in Active Duty units.
While in CTLT, Maurer served as a quartermaster platoon leader who was in charge of the Supply Support Activity and also spent time with both the Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants and the Water Purification platoons. She also learned the unique equipment and roles of each platoon from their respective platoon leaders and took part in a field exercise with the 87th DSSB to support a National Guard unit’s training, where she learned how to plan and conduct fuel and water missions while in the field.
Maurer is from Canton, Georgia, and decided to join the military “to do something with my career that would make an impact on other people, and on our country.” Maurer decided to pursue becoming an Army officer and was accepted to attend the prestigious USMA. Maurer describes her experience as a cadet over the past three years as fantastic. “I've had amazing opportunities at West Point that I would never have had at a normal college or honestly, any workplace in the country. I was even able to study abroad in Germany.”
Maurer plans to graduate soon and hopes to become a quartermaster officer. She hopes to work “somewhere in logistics around quartermaster, ordinance, transportation,” she said.
