The F-15 Short Take Off and Landing/Maneuver Technology Demonstrator (STOL/MTD), arrived June 15, 1993 at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California. The aircraft, using a multi-axis thrust-vectoring system, is being used as a testbed for a number of advanced research projects replacing Dryden's F-15 Highly Integrated Digital Electronic Control (HIDEC) research aircraft. Dryden is using the STOL/MTD initially in the Advanced Control Technology for Integrated Vehicles (ACTIVE) program that will investigate improvements in cruise speeds and trim drag reduction during cruise flights or maneuvers. The ACTIVE program is concentrating on parameter indentification and system optimization and integration efforts. The F-15 STOL is on loan from the U.S. Air Force.
