Former U.S. Army Specialist Five Dennis M. Fujii, receives the Medal of Honor from the president Joseph R. Biden in the East Room at the White House in Washington, D.C., July 5, 2022. Fujii distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity beyond the call of duty while serving as crew chief aboard a helicopter ambulance during rescue operations in Laos, Republic of Vietnam during the period of 18 February 1971 to 22 February 1971. On March 20, 1971, Fujii was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions. On Dec. 9, 2020, the Secretary of the Army recommended upgrade of his award to the Medal of Honor.
