Deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) on this second servicing mission (HST SM-02) on Flight Day 9. The Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm end effector suspends the telescope momentarily before release (027-32). The RMS releases the telescope so that it is free floating (033-35). The telescope moves majestically over the crew compartment flight deck windows passing within a few feet of the shuttle and then grows smaller as the shuttle moves away (036-100). View STS082-708-045 was selected by the crew to be used in their postflight presentation.
