Boat docks lead to the reservoir at Lunga Recreation Facility on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, July 18, 2022. The reservoir supplies backup drinking water to the base and northern Stafford County. Due to the nature of the reservoir, certain boats and swimming will be prohibited, but will be open to camping, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Lunga Recreation Facility closed in 2012 due to the discovery of unexploded ordnance. Cleanup efforts are currently being made by Marine Corps Community Services Quantico and Navy Facilities Command Washington to restore Lunga as a safe and fun place for Marines and their families.
