SAN DIEGO BAY (Aug. 29, 2022) – Quartermaster 2nd Class Colton Sanders stands lookout during a navigation watch aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Aug. 29. Sailors stand lookout watches to maintain a continuous watch of the sea and report any hazard that can be an obstacle in the navigation and cause harm to the ship. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
